Drasnice

Drašnice a small fishing village on the Adriatic coast, situated at the foot of the mountain slope on the Makarska Riviera. Drašnice got its name from the Latin Paliurus Spinachrist, or in the Croatian language - Draco Christ's thorn. The name is mentioned for the first time in 1523, the official Turkish documents. 1962. during the reconstruction of the church of St. George,  a shield of armor with dragon and lion on it,  was detected . It is believed that it belonged to a noble family Kacic (Turkish Kit = dragon). There are also some preserved monuments from ancient Rome, and some of the early and late Middle Ages. In Drašnicma are also Kastela (guard tower), which are built into caves in the mountain slope. They were used during the Turkish invasion to protect the village. People in Drašnice, are mainly engaged in tourism, fishing and olive oil.
